Summoner Series #1: The Novice.

Updated: Apr 4, 2019

This is one of my 4 favourite books (the other three being the other summoner books and the Summoner's handbook), and I'll be making it one of yours. This book is like Northern Lights, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. The book is all about a young man called Fletcher, who was abandoned by a northern village when he was a baby. After meeting a retired soldier, he gets hold of a strange book: a summoning book. Within in this is a scroll, with strange letters on. He reads it and summons Ignatius: a demon. One of the important matters discussed at the summoning school is Fletcher's parents. One of his teachers thinks he's a bastard (hence the reason why he's an orphan), which may mean he's the teacher's half-brother. From here on is an amazing journey that changes Fletcher's life forever. I have explained what a demon is in my first post, The Summoner's Handbook. I've also told you most of the other stuff about the magic side in that post as well. Fletcher's demon is a Salamander, which are extremely rare.

This book focuses on magic and the demons, which gives you a really good mix of detail and storytelling. The important thing to look at is the way that the author ties everything in and explains things, but not in too much detail. My favourite part is when Fletcher competes in an end of year tournament. This is towards the end, and it all builds up to this moment. At the end of the book, there are demon fact-files, like in the Summoner's handbook. I couldn't stop reading it (literally!!) and devoured it in 2 days straight (I'm really serious about reading). This book is perfect for older kids (12+ as there's some swearing and rude stuff). The overall book is good, and at £8.00 for a 400 pages, it is well worth the money and time spent reading. Now, go and add this to your cart with The Summoner's handbook!

This is the cover (author is Taran Matharu, hard to see I know), and the guy is Fletcher (Ignatius #hisdemon is on his shoulder).
